Setup guide

Set up Brummell on your Shopify store

From install to your first results, in the order you will do it. No code and no developer: every block goes on through the Shopify theme editor.

01

Install and accept the Merchant Terms

Install Brummell from the Shopify App Store and approve the access it asks for. The app opens inside your Shopify admin on the Overview tab and starts checking your products on its own. There is nothing to configure first.

Then open the Settings tab and accept the Brummell Merchant Terms (read them here). Until you accept, pieces from a shopper's own Brummell wardrobe stay off on your store.

02

Add the blocks

Start with the product page. That is where outfits sell. Two blocks go there:

  • Versatility Strip: three ways to wear the product, right above Add to cart.
  • Complete the Look: the pieces that finish the outfit, each added to the cart in one tap.

On the Overview tab, Get set up has an Add button for each. The Placements tab lists every block with an Add in theme editor button. Either one opens your theme editor with the block already added. Click Save there to publish it.

Moving a block

The editor adds the Versatility Strip at the end of your product information. In the theme editor's left sidebar, drag it just above the Buy buttons, then click Save. Any Brummell block moves the same way: drag it in the sidebar list.

Other pages are optional. Add them from the Placements tab when you are ready:

BlockPageWhat shoppers get
Style BannerHome pageA shoppable styled banner of outfits from your catalog.
Cart CompanionCartPieces that complete what is already in the cart. Use the block on a cart page, or the app embed to show it inside your cart drawer, with a size picker. The Overview has a one-click step for the embed.

Every block reserves its space before it loads, so your page doesn't jump while outfits appear. To pause a block without touching your theme, untick Show on my store on its card in Placements.

03

Check what shoppers see

View as a shopper. A small share of visitors, chosen at random (up to 1 in 5), are in a comparison group and never see Brummell, so results can be compared. That can include you. If a product page shows nothing, use the View as a shopper button on the Placements tab to open your store as a visitor who sees Brummell.

Look up a product. At the top of the Pairings tab, type part of a product's name. Brummell tells you whether that product shows outfits and, if not, why. You also see the outfit shoppers get on its page and a View as a shopper link for it.

Per-product switches. In the same look-up you can turn on Don't show Brummell on this product (its page shows no outfit, your Outfits stay saved) or Don't use this product in outfits (it won't be suggested with other products, except in an Outfit you made).

04

Your catalog

Brummell reads your products, including the Shopify product category, product type, tags, titles and photos, to work out what each piece is and what goes with it. There is nothing to fill in per product. The first check runs when you install (Get set up shows its progress), and new or changed products are picked up automatically. Outfits show on clothing products and use pieces you sell, in stock.

Outfits. For a hero product whose outfit you want to choose yourself, press Create an outfit under Outfits on the Pairings tab, pick the product, then the pieces. Give it a title if you like, and tick where it shows: Complete the Look, Style Banner or both (the Strip and the Lookbook are marked coming soon). A note under each Outfit says what your storefront shows.

An Outfit wins over everything else and shows exactly the pieces you chose: Brummell adds nothing to it, so an Outfit without shoes shows without shoes. It goes live when you save. In the Style Banner it can carry a photo of the whole look; without one, its pieces show together. Products in your Outfits and your Pair with field come first everywhere else; Brummell fills in the rest from your catalog.

The Pair with field. On the Pairings tab, Add Brummell fields to my products adds a Pair with field to every product in your Shopify admin. Products you choose there are shown next to it and win over Brummell's own picks. Complementary products you set in Shopify Search & Discovery count as your picks too.

05

Measure results

Results live on the Overview tab. Brummell compares shoppers who see it with the comparison group, on your own store's data. Until enough product views with Brummell have come in, it shows how many it has collected so far. Busier stores get a result sooner, and there is nothing for you to do in the meantime.

Orders with products added from Brummell counts orders that include a piece added through Brummell, with times shown, add-to-carts and orders for each block. Download CSV (30 days) exports it. This is a count, not the comparison: the comparison-group result above it is the controlled one.

Revenue from Brummell adds this month sits under the comparison result: the value of the cart lines Brummell added, after discounts, this calendar month. With try-on on, Virtual try-on, last 30 days shows openers, try-ons, add-to-carts and orders.

06

Plans and limits

Plans, prices and what each one includes are on the pricing page. Billing runs through Shopify. To change plan, use Plan & billing at the top of the app.

If you uninstall

Deleted at once

  • Your sign-in to the Brummell app

Deleted within 48 hours

When Shopify sends its store data deletion request:

  • What Brummell learned about your products
  • Your Brummell settings, plan and Outfits
  • Visit, sales and speed measurements
  • Shopper sign-in codes and choices on your store
  • Order details tied to shoppers who signed up on your store (their own Brummell accounts stay theirs)
  • Try-on photos and images made on your store
  • Assistant keys and usage
  • Your store's name on feedback you sent us or gave Shopify when uninstalling (the text goes within 30 days of the uninstall; the reason you picked on Shopify's form stays, with no store name)
  • Customer data request exports
  • Brand Look images and models
  • Your store's name on install and plan history (the counts stay, without it)

Stays, because it is yours

  • Brummell blocks in your theme, until you remove them in the theme editor (they show nothing once the app is gone)
  • The Pair with, Occasions and Palette product fields, and any values in them
